Fees and Charges

tower of coinsThe table below gives a rough idea of appraisal charges. An accurate quote, however, depends on the condition of the manuscript. For that, you need to email me a sample.

Assessment Charges (in Australian dollars)

No. of words                       Cost in AU$

100,000                                   1,000.00

50,000                                      500.00

25,000                                      250.00

For anything over 100,00 words or under 25,000, please contact me.

Editing Charges

Depending on the state of the manuscript and the type of editing required, charges are AU$12.50 per 1,000 words for content-editing, and AU$10.00 per 1000 words for copy-editing a well-presented work.

Because I’m an author lucky enough to have won a few awards and to have stories published in national magazines, I don’t charge an arm and a leg for assessments or editing. I understand how writers are placed, and how there is never enough money to go around. I enjoy helping and mentoring writers, so my charges are small compared with the big boys.

A Word of Warning

Because I’m an old manuscript assessor, I work on print copies. I firmly believe a better job can be done on a print copy than on an e. That means you need to post me a printed copy of the manuscript — or you can email it to me, and I will print it out. If you choose the second option, printing charges apply on top of the assessment or editing charges. (See table below.) After I have marked up the corrections, I will post it back to you, and you will need to put up those corrections yourself. It’s a drag, but it makes the price that much cheaper, and you will learn a great deal by doing it.

PRINTING COSTS

No. of Pages                       Cost/page (in cents)

2-20                                         0.25

21-50                                       0.20

51-100                                     0.15

101+                                        0.12

If you’re a writer working outside Australia, it’s sometimes cheaper to take the email-and-print option, depending on the size of the work and where you are posting from.
